Nice to Meetcha. I'm the Great Ninja, Arisa Amane!

"...your target's name is Sasayaku Lamb. He's an elf whose origins we have yet to pin. Rumor has it he did not originally grow up with the Church, but there has been no solid evidence towards where he lived before. He is about -yay- tall and...Arisa? Are you paying any attention at all?" Her employer noticed her dozing off. "Wha? Yeah, a lamb or somethin'," the ninja shrugged as her employer grabbed her by the arms. "Look. All you need to know is I sent him a letter. Your job is to meet him in Middle Pavane's underground. Tonight. Okay? Security has been pretty bad there lately, so be careful."
Arisa still wasn't quite sure why she was to meet a lamb in a dangerous place like Middle Pavane's underground, but she got the gist of it. He was supposed to be involved is some sort of business the resistance would find useful. She walked into the cove and awaited the arrival of the lamb dawned in her ninja robe and kitsune mask. She idly hopped around in muddy ground of the cave, two weakening candles illuminating the space around her. She had nothing but the small sound of water dripping from the stalagmites above her. A lamb...Really, what kind of lamb would she be meeting tonight? Elizabeth was really vague about the whole thing... "

The letter had arrived early morning, before even the first rays of light graced Pavane with its embrace. The simple, unmarked document had contained the standard affair one such as Sasayaku came to expect once he had begun his life as a ghost for the church. "We know who you are and what you did!" Kind of drivel that any thief or spy eventually faced once they became skilled enough to catch attention from the wrong sort of people. The letter had sought after a meeting that night in Middle Pavane's underground. Though nothing in the letter was inherently a threat... Sasayaku was left feeling he didn't exactly have much of a choice.
During the daylight hours Sasayaku dropped the letter off with his handlers, hopefully the church had some means of identifying who sent the letter. He also visited the underground many hours before the meeting doing what he could to learn the area in case trouble arose later that night. By the time Sasayaku had finished preparing his contacts reached out with little to offer him, the writer possessed elegant handwriting that suggested the scribe was female. It was almost nothing to go off of... leaving Sasayaku in the dark.
When the meeting hour approached Sasayaku found himself treading down the looping path of muddy stone that made up the underground cave. He wore his standard affair of clothes and gear for sulking through the night, and though Sasayaku was worried about what was to come he was strangely peaceful. The Elf's feet touched down with no more sound than a shadow passing over silk, his brown and dark green garb easily blending with the dark. Before long the constant drip of water, 'the heartbeat of the underground' was joined by intermittent soft plops... as if a child was jumping in mud. Faint light flickered around an upcoming bend in the cave walls, and Sasayaku peeked around the corner to see a figure idly passing time between twin candles.
The stranger wore a robe of red and white, face masked under the guise of a fox or kitsune. Sasayaku couldn't make out any obvious weapons or traps, not that it meant much. His own weapons were hidden from view after all. With little else to do the Elf pulled the collar of his half cape up to obscure the lower half of his features, he than walked out into the light. "You sent a letter to my home... In the future I'll ask that you just knock instead of asking me out to a cave." Sasayaku said in his somewhat quiet fashion to the kitsune faced stranger.
.It came as a shock to Arisa how late she was able to detect the movements of the elf. She jumped as she turned around to see the elf had actually made it in undetected! Quietly, she measured the distance he was from her. Closer, much closer than even most of the ninjas in her clan could go unnoticed. "Wow," she turned to him in an exasperated voice, "You are sneaky, kid! Like, for real! Almost gave me a heart attack." She leaned in forward towards him to examine him further, but his gear left him difficult to identify. Had he used some sort of magick to sneak up...? It was hard to say.
She was getting off-track though. "Wha...? A letter? Oh, sorry, must have the wrong girl. See, I am waiting here for someone with a lamb," She was clearly confused. "But ya know, being able to sneak up on the Great Ninja herself...Kinda impressive! What's your name?" She exclaimed, extending her hand towards him. "It's nice to meetcha. I'm the Great Ninja, Arisa Amane!" she corrected herself quickly, "Oh! I mean, Sparrow! Name's Sparrow. Shit..."

The oddly dressed stranger jumped from Sasayaku's introduction, the reaction was a surprise to the thief. Even when he had underwent training Sasayaku had always had talent for stealth, several of his fellow ghosts could out fight him or possessed stronger magic. Few could sneak as well as Sasayaku however, it was his single greatest strength. Still Sasayaku's abilities aside... he hadn't expected his blackmailer to jump so carefree at his appearance.
The woman seemed genuinely impressed as Sasayaku's ability to be silent, even as she leaned in to examine him. The thief was taken aback by this girl, she acted as if everything was fine. Like two strangers had merely bumped into each other on the street. The kitsune masked woman's response was so lacking in anything harmful that Sasayaku actually found himself growing nervous. "Errr... Um... Thank you?" he replied, completely unsure as to how to respond.
Sasayaku could only stare dumbfounded at this odd woman whom he met in the tunnels at night. Arisa's introduction was anything but what he had expected. The woman not only revealed she was indeed waiting for him, albeit in a clueless manner. She also revealed her name, profession, and alter ego in less than three breaths. Sasayaku's suspicion of being blackmailed was swiftly changing to feeling as if someone was making fun of him. Still the Elf had heard tales about ninjas in Pavane's history, a mysterious and dangerous group rumor to belong to either the families of angels or demons. Neither was a group Sasayaku wish to have as an enemy if they actually existed.
Cautiously Sasayaku reached out, and shook the woman's hand in his own. "Hello Great Ninja... Sparrow." Sasayaku said figuring there would be no reason for him to not use the woman's clearly false name. "I'm Sasayaku Lamb. I was told by letter to meet you here." he added after letting go of the woman's hand. Whether this ninja girl was playing him for a fool or not, someone knew who Sasayaku was. Which meant using a fake name himself wouldn't matter at all during this meeting.
"May I ask why your waiting for me?" he asked a breath later. Genuine curiosity was driving him now.
.She scratched her head. Was this indeed the man she was supposed to meet? "Ah, I get it, Lamb's like your code name or somethin'," she announced proudly. She was a sparrow and he was a lamb! Now it all made sense to her. "Alrighty then, Lamb, let's talk business," she jumped back and leaned against a rock behind her. She pulled up her mask onto her forehead and give Sasayaku a big dumb smile as she pulled out a letter of her own from her pocket. "Let's see here...Sasayaku Lamb. I have been ordered to meet you in regards to a suspicion that you may or may not have certain talons?" She squinted and pulled her head close to the paper at hand, "talents that our super duper ultra secret organization might be able to make use of. Ah, let's see..." she continued to skim the paper in silence for a minute before exclaiming, "Ah, I see! You're an accomplished artist, huh? Can you paint me like one of your elven girls?" She tilted her head as she thought. "Wait, why did we need an artist again?" She read the notes one more time. "Ohhhh, I see. For real now. So that's why you're so sneaky, huh? Say, Lamb, what's your thoughts on the Council? Ever feel like, you know, burning them mercilessly to the ground?" She jumped from the rock she was resting beginning to pace back and forth, tapping her finger against her chin. "Or maybe you're more of a money kind of guy? I can pay you lots if you're willing to take a 'special job' if that's more your pace."

Even as Sasayaku introduced himself to the woman... Arisa, she just didn't seem to be all together there. She seemed to think his surname was an alias, when in fact it was a very common name for Elves raised in the orphanages. True it wasn't Sasayaku's birth name, but that child had died over fifty years ago. Long enough ago that Sasayku didn't even think of himself by that name anymore. Suddenly the ninja leap back and snuggled into the stone. It was a fluid movement, followed by Arisa's unmasking. She wore a gigantic smile even as she pulled forth a second letter and began to read.
Instead of trying anything foolish Sasayaku simply listened and examined the woman's features. Her hair and face were glossy and clean... like that of a human if it were to be seen through an ideal lens. Or at least that was what Sasayaku expected, in truth he had never seen a human outside of a painting. His closest comparison would have been that of a witch or a ghoul. Still the woman looked fit and her clothing was finely made... suggesting both financial backing and training. Arisa read on a level similar to a child, mixing up words and adding descriptions that Sasayaku couldn't possibly believe were actually in the letter. "Super duper ultra secret?" he asked aloud even as Arisa continued to read the page held before her. "Of course I can. I'll paint you like any girl you wish-" Sasayaku began to reply before coming to his sense. Talk of art always managed to get a response out of him.
As Arisa continued to read however a pit began to sink into Sasayaku's stomach. Whomever this woman worked for they knew more than just his name and his deeds done in the night. They knew his career, race, and it was even suggested they knew of his training. This could develop into a major problem, as Sasayaku wasn't prepared to have his whole life exposed on such a level. Arisa questioned him on his view of the council than. She began pacing before also offering him money to do a special job. Sasayaku wasn't certain how to respond immediately. Like many in Pavane the elf was no fan of the council, but Sasayaku only worked to progress the churches will and so far as of now he had never dreamed of overthrowing Pavane's ruling structure. "Look I'm no supporter of the council, but I don't exactly see how we could just raze them to the ground." Sasayaku stated truthfully.
The offering of money didn't mean much to Sasayaku, not because he was particularly rolling in dough. Simply because some people just didn't care about money so long as they possessed enough to get by at the end of the day. Still Sasayaku knew he would have little choice but to take this woman's offer. Firstly he needed to learn just who she worked for and what they knew about him and his employer. Secondly Sasayaku was curious to learn just what this job was all about. "Keep talking. What does this special job entail?" he asked, ready to jump down crazy Arisa's rabbit hole.
"So you will paint me then?" She grew more excited. and reached to grab his hands, buzzing with energy. "Oh my gosh, I would love to sometime! Jus' hit me up whenever." She had apparently forgotten that he had no clue how or where to find her.
Suddenly, she reset herself, backing away and clearing her throat. "Well, you don't have to believe we can. Because I know we can. Problem is," she lowered herself to a whisper and leaned in slightly, "you're working for those religious goofs and I am working for the wicked witch. If only they would grow up and learn who the real enemy is, you know?" It really wasn't any consequence to her, so...maybe it was time for her to go rouge. "But let's forget allllll of that boring political stuff for a minute, Lamb. You - that sneaky painter guy no one in Upper Pavane knows about - and ME - the greatest ninja of all time. With a team like that...We could break right into the Council Building and steal all sorts of wealth dontcha think? Whose panties do you think we'll find in Ookami's office?" She looked up to the ceiling as she became entranced in her dream. "I can see it now! The biggest heist of our lives, and the biggest haul too! You can even take 75%. On the house. Whaddya say? Is it a deal?" The original plan was to recruit Sasayaku to gather intel on the Council's movements and their ever-present watchdogs, but, well, that would have just been too boring for Arisa.
Arisa leaped forward with all the energy of an excited cat and grabbed Sasayaku's hands when he said he would paint her. Her words were so overflowing with spirit that Sasayaku was lost for words. The Elf literally opened his mouth to speak, only for no words to come tumbling forth... Sasayaku could only hope his half cape hide his mouth well enough to keep him from embarrassing himself.
Luckily Arisa quickly backed away and went on to explain a few things. The ninja and her employers certainly knew he worked for the church. What Sasayaku hadn't expected to learn was that Arisa worked for the great witch. Sasayaku had never met the great witch, in fact he had only even met a handful of regular witches. The few he had however wielded wide ranging and dangerous magic. Being on the watch list of the head of the Witch community was something Sasayaku sorely was displeased to hear. Arisa went on than, and her words spiraled down a thorny path Sasayaku could have never expected. He ignored the barb about him being an unknown painter in Upper Pavane, mostly because the statement wasn't untrue. Still Arisa's claim to be the greatest ninja of all time was as boastful as her plan to rob the council building was insane! "How should I know whose panties he's got. Probably Council Advisor Firefly's, he seems like the the uptight angel sort." Sasayaku replied before he could stop himself from imagining the asked question.
"That- That's not the point anyway! if we are caught you know we're dead." he added swiftly to cover his tracks. Still... Sasayaku didn't immediately say no to the ludicrous scheme. The promised seventy-five percent of profits suggested quite a large haul of money, which Sasayaku could donate over the span of the next few years to the church or the orphanage. Even more appealing was the challenge behind the proposed heist. As much as Sasayaku tried to quell his more unlawful persona from controlling his actions, one did not become a thief without feeling a level of enjoyment in stealing.
"If I agree to this I would feel better with a plan, and a crew. Also a target a little more 'weighted' than Ookami's latest conquest." Sasayaku stated. Sasayaku choose to show more trust in Arisa by pulling his half cape's collar down. Showcasing his face freely to the bubbly woman.
Arisa frowned as it became clearer and clearer that Sasayaku was less excited about the plan than she had hoped. At least she nodded in agreement to the bit about being 'the uptight angel sort.' She hadn't really considered it before, but that's just the kind of girl a perverted old man like him would go for. Of course, Arisa had never met him, but she had a gut feeling about it, you know?
"Then just don't get caught," Arisa tilted her head, confused by his concern. "Ya don't have to die if ya don't get caught." She scratched her head. She did guess they lacked the numbers, but even when she had the whole ghoul race behind her.... "Tell you what. What if we do a smaller heist first just to feel things out a little bit, right? And then we can go for the big haul, maybe." She failed to remember that that was the exact plan the grand witch had given her in the first place. "But you have to promise me. There's an ultra secret room in the Council that only the top dogs themselves can get into. I am sure that there will be enough gold in there to feed you and your children and your children's children and so on!" She was excited to see him finally considering the request at least. And just as she spoke, he even grew comfortable enough to remove his hood to her. "Damn," she thought, "he's kinda hot. Especially his cutie wittle cheeks. Was kinda expecting a street bum or something, to be honest..."

Sasayaku could only stare into Arisa's face as she puffed her cheeks in a adorable frown. The thief's initial reaction didn't seem to be sitting well with the ninja girl... but instead of looking angry Arisa looked more like a puppy that was trying to win him over with sad eyes. The thought left Sasayaku wondering about Arisa. He honestly wasn't sure how old she was or even what race she belonged too. Physically she could have been a human aged between mid-teens to mid-twenties something that meant nothing in a world of Angels, Demons, and Vampires. At best Sasayaku just knew the woman wasn't an Elf.
Ripped from his train of thought as Arisa began to speak again, Sasayku decided to root himself in the moment. He could always try to learn more about this 'Sparrow' at a later time. "What kind of answer is don't get caught?" Sasayaku thought but did not say aloud. No thief ever wished to be caught the reality of life though was that one day everyone gets caught. Still Arisa seemed to reckognize the challenge she had put forth, and suddenly stepped forward with an idea that Sasayaku could readily get behind. "A small heist would allow us to learn to work together and assess our skills. It's actually a really good idea." Sasayaku stated as Arisa offered up the alternative plan.
Prospect of a secret room within the council building wasn't much of a thought. The thief figured that if any building in all of Pavane would have such a room than it would be the cities headpiece. "I don't have children... What's in that room?" he asked as Arisa kept speaking, Sasayaku ran a hand across his cheek in thought now that his features were revealed to the ninja girl. "I guess it doesn't matter. If thats the room you want to strike than I promise, but only when we are ready for the council building." Sasayaku agreed a moment later.
More important at the moment than a far off heist, was the planning of a soon to be heist. "For this smaller job... Did you have a place in mind? As well as a team?" he asked. If Arisa didn't have a target he could give voice to one he had been eyeing for a few weeks. Sasayaku didn't have many people to call on for building a crew however... Especially since he was certain the church would not condone his plans. "Have you ever thought to hit the Ankokku Ballroom?" Sasayaku asked. Most citizens of Pavane didn't know the ballroom in upper Pavane served any function besides that of a large gathering place for important events. Sasayaku knew something more about the place... it was where the rich families of the upper species paid their tithing to the council. Somewhere within that place was stored the taxes of Pavane's upper class.
Arisa was a little disappointed they wouldn't be making the attempt on the Council Building quite yet. "I dunno what the room is. I don't think anyone does other than Takuto, Amy, and Ookami." She had only seen the staircase once. It seemed rather innocuous at first, but upon further investigation, she discovered really tight security down there. Some sort of pad with numbers on it... And when she asked Denji about it, he said he didn't even know it existed. A mysterious room indeed...
"I thought you were my team, Lamb," she scratched her head. Of course, she had detailed plans of the Ballroom itself. She had already technically had a "heist" there during the Ghoul Uprising, but that all sort of felt like ancient history at this point. "I don't know how much they will have there, but there was a bar. Maybe I could ask you on a date and we can have the ballroom to ourselves for a bit?" Of course, she had no clue there would be a small haul in it for them, but that was never really the point for her anyways. "

"A room that no one knows about? Maybe the council has a goddess chained up or something..." Sasayaku replied as Arisa talked up the room again. In truth the Elf had no idea what could be in such a vault, nor why the council would even need such a room in the first place. Still if Sasayaku were to ever help Arisa strike out at the council... robbing one of their most well kept secrets would be a powerful blow to the very ego of Pavane's ruling class. These were thoughts for a later time however, and Sasayaku returned his musing to the situation he was in now.
Arisa scratched her head as she fired away with questions and remarks. For a 'great ninja' the girl certainly seemed ditsy... Perhaps that was exactly what she wanted him to think? "We are a team little Sparrow." Sasayaku stated, somehow he was pushing a job for them now. As if Sasayaku was hijacking his own blackmailing. "Still a friend or two extra wouldn't hurt. Especially if you want to rob the council building after. A job like that would defiantly need more than two people." he added in hopes of explaining too Arisa that numbers could factor in case such as this.
"You want to ask me on a date?" Sasayaku asked in a flustered manner after Arisa pitched her idea. "Actually the bar does kind of work as an 'in' if we got questioned about being there." he quickly added, trying to cover up his social blundering. Sasayaku was not a very good 'talker' and his social anxiety just had to crop up at Arisa's comment. Still whether Arisa had made her comment as a joke or not didn't mean what she said didn't matter. The bar and ballroom itself could easily be rented or reserved for an event. It was the security of the buildings second floor that would prove more troublesome.
The more Sasayaku thought about it the more he liked the idea of reserving the ballroom and bar. A burning question came to Sasayaku than though... what actual skills did Arisa possess? "If you don't mind me asking... What can you actually... Do as a ninja?" the thief asked. Sasayaku had heard old legends and rumors of ninja groups, but he had never actually seen one himself and the legends were pretty vague. "Like I'd prefer to not kill anyone during a job if possible." he stated truthfully, hoping Arisa possessed abilities beyond something like cutting a grown man in half with a ninja sword.
"A chained up goddess? Which one do you think it is, then?" She idly wondered almost accepting the proposition as if it were fact.
"Yeah, its a brilliant cover, isn't it? Just two love birds getting into trouble...totally not stealing taxes or anything." She mused over the idea again with unwarranted pride. She supposed that about settled it. The plan was to have a safe(r) heist first it seemed. If that were the case, they would have to wait just a bit longer to discover the goddess behind that door.
She nodded. "Don't worry, I have a few other leads other than you, Lamb. I'll see if anyone else would be interested in the heist, don't you worry. Actually, I am kinda surprised. I figured you'd be one of those 'I don't work with others; they just slow me down' types." She was usually decent enough on getting a read on people, but Sasayaku was proving a little more difficult for her. Maybe it was because she was distracted?
She gasped and gave an exaggerated look of surprise. "You are asking my what my powers are? Geez, Lamb, you do know that would take the 'ninja' part out of 'The Great Ninja,' you know?" She was half joking, but the Amane clan had many hidden secrets up their sleeves that they preferred to keep out of the eyes and hands of the public. "Don't worry. We don't have to kill if you don't want to kill. Think of me more as an escape artist if that makes sense. The less people know about my techniques, the higher chance we have of breaking in and breaking out without breaking a sweat!"
She spoke, but had nearly forgotten her reason for being there in the first place. "Oh! But Lamb," she suddenly perked up, "What about you? I get you're sneaky and all, but is there anything else you'd like to share with the class? I can factor it in when deciding who else will join our super duper ultra secret heist." ".
words: ###. tag: Arisa Amane notes: Crow Lord Evil?
Obviously Sasayaku had meant his comment as hyperbole, but the innocent way Arisa wondered aloud made the Elf respond to her open question without thinking. "Probably Aheira... Council is made up of Vamps, Angels and Demons right? Well all of them have a bone to pick with their mistress if you review Pavane's history." Sasayaku mused aloud himself. The artisan decided that this would be a interesting topic to debate at some point... he was at a complete loss as to who he could debate it with however.
Arisa carried the conversation forward than, back to the topic at hand. The ninja girl seemed rather proud of her idea to infiltrate the ballroom as a couple. "It's decent idea. Still it will only give us so much access. We will need a diversion once we are inside so that we can traverse the buildings other floors." Sasayaku said, conceding only a little. Arisa struck him as the type who could get a big head if he allowed her too, and nothing botched jobs more in this trade than prideful overconfidence.
The ninja woman explained that she possessed a few other leads. In truth Sasayaku had a contact or two of his own, but he desperately held no desire to involve any other church agents at this stage. "Really? I didn't think I came off that way." was all he said in reply when Arisa teased him about being a lone wolf. Sasayaku was more than happy to work as part of a team, the problem however was most thieves and crooks were only in it for themselves. The artisan turned thief did what he did in service to his faith. Something that was very rare among the criminal element of Pavane. All these factors meant Arisa wasn't wrong though... Sasayaku worked alone a lot. It just wasn't by choice.
With all the flare and flamboyance of one so young as she, Arisa had fun at Sasayaku's expense when he questioned her about her skill set. Sadly this did not surprise Sasayaku. In the shadows of the world all kinds of people did things in the dark... in secret. Getting a spy or a ninja to reveal their tricks was just as hard as making a stage magician reveal his act. In the rare cases that these people did show what they could do, it was only to show off and stroke their egos. Even Sasayaku wasn't immune to this as he too was known to show off at times. Luckily Arisa was fine with his deterrence towards killing. Killing made it safer for the robbers, but Sasayaku didn't enjoy the act and only killed if he had no other choice.
"A escape artist? So no ropes or irons can hold you?" he asked quietly, more to acknowledge the hint she had given him about her abilities than any other reason. Not long afterwards Arisa asked the expected question. Since Sasayaku had wondered what she could do, the ninja woman now wondered what he could do to. Sasayaku thought to give some kind of noncommittal answer, but his own ego gnawed away at him. This girl's clan had spied on him after all, maybe it would be good to show off a bit that Sasayaku could handle himself. "I can do a fair few things. I think you'll like this trick though." Sasayaku said quietly, his eyes beginning to glow a pale green.
Sensosomatic magic was a tricky thing to wield effectively. Most Elves thought to use it to make things smell nice, make food more flavorful. Few Elves ever really learned to affect more than one or two senses at a time, which was why most of Sasayaku's people choose to study Morphology. Sasayaku however was very gifted at messing with peoples senses and feelings. Sure the things he could make people feel weren't real, but Sasayaku had learned long ago that a persons mind liked to fill in the gaps... it liked to believe in the unreal. Sasayaku knew how to control all five senses with his magic, and though targeting multiple people was a strain just messing with Arisa should be easy enough.
Raising his left hand above his head for showmanship, Sasayaku snapped his fingers loudly. The noise echoing along the walls of the muddy cave. First Sasayaku targeted Arisa's sight. A blinding strand of yellow light cut through the darkness of the cave that only the ninja girl would be able to see. Hearing came next, the sound of sloshing... boiling mud dripping and falling away from a brilliant orb of yellow light that slowly rose free of the caverns muddy floor. As the small sun rose out of the mud the caves darkness fell away into bright daylight. Every crag of stone glittering in the new rays of Sasayaku's artificial dawn. Touch was affected next, as Sasayaku imparted the feeling of heat to the surface of Arisa's face and hands, carefully avoiding the parts of her covered in cloth. Smell and taste was next to change. The dry tug along the tongue and nose of baked clay as the mud beneath the sun began to turn hard and brittle to Arisa's gaze. In his mind Sasayaku treated the illusion as if it were his own painted world, where he controlled and created everything within.
The display was all fake however, and although Arisa would experience it all as if it were the real thing. Sasayaku himself stood cold in the dark with mud clinging to his boots. After twenty seconds of the display Sasayaku ceased his magic and Arisa's senses would come crashing back to reality. She would be greeted by little more than a dark cave and a grinning Elf whose eyes still shown the palest green.
Living in a dystopian society, seven mystic races are trapped due to their own selfishness. Tensions rise between the races and the different social classes, leading up to the constant struggle for power, with no end in sight.
