Their sleeps were abruptly interrupted again and again met with screams of anguish and flames bellowing as high as they could see from the ghoul providence. Those brave enough to approach were met with the sight of bloody and charred corpses lining the streets as masked figures dragged terrified ghouls from out of their homes. Those that didn’t burn to death were chopped methodically limb from limb. Some halflings still braver attacked the Council’s goons to no avail. They too met the horrible fate of the ghouls they desperately attempted to fight for in what would eventually be known as the Ghoul Purge fighting aimlessly for a foolish justice. Some would walk around the now abandoned streets of the ghoul slums slowly soaking in the horror of the countless dead bodies. They were left there in fact to instill a message into the people of Pavane: a reminder of the power of the three races – angels, demons, and vampires. In the coming days, town criers and rumors began to spread of the simple message of the Council: “Rebellion will be met with death.” Others speculate what may have happened to the leaders of the Ghoul uprising. Were they caught in the massacre as well? In uncertainly, confusion, and terror, Pavane looked desperately to return to normalcy as the message rang again in their minds: “Rebellion will be met with death.”
